A pair of very old (probably early to mid-nineteenth century) porcelain nursery or side plates, each measuring approximately 15.3cm (6in) in diameter (one plate is very slightly larger than the other), in white glaze with overglaze red-orange-brown transfer chinoiserie pattern (with man carrying two birds, pagoda, willow etc. together with flowers) with pink, green and blue enamel embellishment and ochre painted rim; there are no identifying marks.  There is considerable age wear to both plates including scratching and abrasion to the surfaces, marks including rust marks to the edges and undersides (caused by old hanging wires since removed), and wear and fading to the decoration (especially to the blue enamel); both plates have some patches of crazing to the edges, and one has a tiny nibble to the rim.  There are numerous imperfections to the transfers, with variations in the distinctness of the detail, and there are likewise various imperfections in the glaze, one plate having a somewhat sandy texture to the underside.
