Noritake porcelain Art Deco triangular ashtray, c.1920s-30s

A Noritake Japanese porcelain triangular ashtray of distinctively Western Art Deco design, measuring approximately 11.7cm (4.6in) across and 3.9cm (1.55in) deep, in orange with silver lustre recesses and black edging to the upper surface, off-white with abstract design in green, orange and black to the side panels, maroon and white with black edging to the ribbed corner panels, and white to the interior; the unglazed base is marked with the red-brown printed "NORITAKE / HANDPAINTED / MADE IN JAPAN" stamp with the letter "M" inside a wreath.  There is a cluster of tiny chips / nibbles to one corner of the base together with one or two other tiny nibbles to the base edges (scarcely noticeable when the piece is on display), together with considerable age wear and marking to the base, some surface wear including scratching and slight scuffing (mostly to the upper surface and interior) and considerable wear to the silver of the recesses, and some specks of paint to the sides; there are some minor imperfections dating from manufacture including occasional pinholes and spot marks in the glaze.
