An unusual "New York City" souvenir perpetual calendar, c.1930s-40s, in a brass-effect metal case with detailed figures of the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty towering over a similarly detailed cityscape of skyscrapers, black painted / japanned sides and base edges, black felt-covered base and chrome and dark red Bakelite knobs; the rear base edge is stamped "MADE IN JAPAN". The calendar measures approximately 10.7cm (4.2in) high (to the top of Liberty's torch) and approximately 9.2 x 6.5cm (3.6 x 2.55in) at the base. There is considerable age wear and tarnish to the brass finish, the base metal being visible in places, whilst there is some peeling and bubbling to the black finish of the base and sides, with rust visible where the paint has peeled, together with some bumping / indentations to the base edges. The calendar mechanism is in working order although fairly stiff; the paper rollers with printed dates are somewhat discoloured and marked with age, and some of the months and weekdays appear slightly out of horizontal alignment, whilst there is some age wear to the knobs.
