Hardcover (red cloth boards), 384pp plus plates, measuring approximately 13.1 x 18.8 x 2.9cm (5.15 x 7.4 x 1.15in). This edition appears to date from the 1920s, since the domestic equipment and appliances illustrated date from that time, and the preface refers to "the continuing shortage of domestic labour" - a major concern of the period. In addition to the numerous illustrations of food, cookery techniques and domestic equipment, there are several advertisements (to the endpapers and inside covers) for foodstuffs and appliances including Valor Perfection oil cooking stoves, OXO, Borwick's Baking Powder and Mazawattee Tea. No dustjacket; there is light to moderate age wear to the cover including marking, discoloration and wear to edges and corners with some signs of insect attack to the bottom edges and the hinges of the spine; the pages have yellowed with age with browning to edges, with some foxing, marking, creasing and bumping to edges and corners, and one of the colour plates is loose.
