Mervyn Peake, "Rhymes Without Reason" (London, Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1944).  Hardcover (cream / pale straw cloth boards with blue-green title to front and spine), 40pp, measuring approximately 17.8 x 23.4 x 0.6cm (7 x 9.2 x 0.25in).  A collection of sixteen nonsense poems by the author and illustrator best known for his "Gormenghast" books, each accompanied by a delightful full-page illustration in colour.  No dustjacket; the cover is very much marked and discoloured with age wear including some wear and bumping to corners and slight bumping to edges, one or two minor indentations and some surface creases; the  inside covers and endpapers are discoloured with some marks (including an old pre-decimal price in pencil to the front endpaper), creasing and edge / corner wear, and there is slight splitting between the text block and the top inside cover; there is considerable reading wear to the pages with slight discoloration, some marks (including coloured marking to some page edges corresponding to the colour of the illustration on the opposite page) and a few slight corner creases.
