A fluted Georgian-style silver plate candlestick by Mappin & Webb, with oval base and removable top (which lifts out to facilitate the removal of candle stumps), probably made in the first half of the twentieth century, and measuring approximately 17.4cm (6.85in) tall and 10.7 x 8cm (4.2 x 3.15in) at the base, the candle hole being approximately 1.9cm (0.75in) in diameter; one side of the base is stamped "MAPPIN & WEBB / LONDON & SHEFFIELD". The base is covered in green baize, which is in fair condition. There is some deep scratching to the top and (to a lesser extent) one side of the base; there are some lighter scratches and marks in other places, together with a couple of tiny "pinprick" indentations and a slight knock to the base edge.
