A pair of unopened and cellophane-sealed 1960s packs of standard-size playing cards, advertising Manchester Liners (a cargo and passenger shipping company in operation from 1898 to 1985), in the original cardboard box with embossed silver decoration and gold trim, heavily embossed gold paper lid labels and sample cards attached to the base. Although the lid labels bear the name "Waddington's", the gilt paper seals are embossed "A P C C / MADE IN GT BRITAIN" and part of the name of the "Amalgamated Playing Card Company" (mainly hidden by the seals) can be seen on the Aces of Spades; this dates the cards to the period c.1963-9. The box, which measures approximately 13.2 x 9.8 x 2.5cm (5.2 x 3.85 x 1in), has some discoloration (including age darkening to the gold) and slight marking together with age wear including wear to the box edges, the edges of the sample cards and the lid labels (one of which is damaged to one corner) and tearing to the internal gold paper lining; the cards appear to be in good order apart from some marking and discoloration visible to the Aces together with slight discoloration to the cellophane wrappers and wear to the seals.
