Hardcover (black cloth boards) with original dustjacket, 320pp plus black and white plates, measuring approximately 15.4 x 21.6 x 2.8cm (6.05 x 8.5 x 1.1in); this copy has a purpose-printed bookplate glued to the title page, bearing the author's signature in blue ink. Autobiography of Lieutenant-General Sir Brian Horrocks (1895-1985), chiefly remembered for his role as Commander of XXX Corps in operations during World War 2, including Operation Market Garden. "One of the outstanding Corps Commanders of the war, it was his good fortune - despite a long period of invalidism - to play a major part in some of its most exciting and important actions, from the break-out at El Alamein to the attempted relief of the troops dropped at Arnhem and the forcing of the Rhine. There is considerable wear to the dustjacket including several tears (with slight paper loss), creasing, scratching, marking, discoloration to light areas, fading to the spine and foxing to the inside; the cover has some damp stains and other slight marks together with slight bumping to edges, whilst the bottom corner of the back cover is bent slightly outwards with surface creasing; the inside covers and endpapers are yellowed with some tanning and foxing, the front endpaper bearing the original owner's inscription in blue ballpoint; there is some discoloration to the pages with tanning and foxing to edges together with occasional marks.
