"Once in Royal David's City: A Picture Book of the Nativity. Retold from the Gospels by Kathleen Lines & Drawn by Harold Jones", published by Geoffrey Cumberlege, Oxford University Press, 1956 (first edition). This children's picture book of the Christmas story, with board covers (no dustjacket), measures approximately 19.3 x 25.9cm (7.6 x 10.2in), and contains 48 pages (plus endpapers), mostly comprising full-page illustrations alternately in colour and black-and-white, drawn in an appealingly detailed style. The cover is marked and discoloured with fading, bumping and general age wear, and the cloth spine is especially discoloured and marked. On one side of the front endpaper the impression of the name of the original owner, written in pencil and later rubbed out, is clearly visible, and there is an inscription in ink to the other side, whilst an old price is written in ink in the top corner of the title page; the pages are otherwise in good condition apart from slight discoloration and a few slight marks.
