Product description

Kaolin Ware (Thomas Dimmock & Co.) "Bamboo" large antique pottery dinner plate

A genuine 19th century antique Kaolin Ware "Bamboo" large dinner plate, in white glaze with a bluish tinge with dark blue transfer and handpainted colour decoration, produced by the firm of Thomas Dimmock (Jnr) & Co, who were in business in Hanley (Shelton) from 1828-59. The underside of the plate bears the dark blue printed stamp "BAMBOO / KAOLIN WARE / D", together with the painted code "1/330" and a small impressed mark.

The plate shows assorted signs of age including a short hairline crack (see condition description below), together with various manufacturing imperfections including numerous tiny spot marks, some small lumps and a few pinholes in the glaze. Owing to its condition - and to the fact that it is unlikely to conform to present-day safety standards - please note that this item is offered for sale as a collectable or display piece only, and not for food use. However, it remains nicely displayable, and would make a lovely decorative accessory for an early Victorian style interior. (We also have for sale a pair of smaller dinner plates in the same pattern - please see link in "Related Products" below.)
