In this fascinating book, originally published in 1943, the author describes his experiences of life as a British expatriate in Japan between October 1938 and July 1942 (both before and after Japan's entry into the Second World War - exceptionally, he was allowed to remain at liberty after that event owing to his special circumstances and connections), with accounts of various aspects of Japanese culture, customs and laws. No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured and marked with slight fading to the spine together with age wear including bumping to edges and corners; the front endpaper is creased, whilst the pages are discoloured with occasional marks, slight bumping to corners, occasional indentations to page edges and the odd corner crease.
