Jerrard Tickell, "The Hero of Saint Roger" (London, The Popular Book Club, 1955). Hardcover, 248pp, measuring approximately 12.5 x 18.9 x 2.3cm (4.9 x 7.45 x 0.9in). This novel, first published in 1954, "opens with the complete devastation by hurricane of the tiny Caribbean island of Saint Roger. Some unique attraction had to be thought up quickly if the tourist trade on which the island depended was to be recaptured. A most ingenious plan was devised in which Gabrielle, young, attractive though so far unsuccessful actress, takes on the greatest role of her life. With the Prefect of Saint Roger, she arrives from France in a vessel which carries a strange and sombre cargo. From this moment, remarkable complications are encountered..." The original dustjacket is still present, although torn and tattered with areas missing including the top of the spine. The cover is slightly faded and bumped with slight wear to edges, whilst the inside cover has a previous owner's name written on it in pen, together with a small green stain; the pages are foxed and marked with tanned edges.
