HOW TO ORDER

N.B. The following directions apply to the standard (desktop) version of our website. If you are using the mobile-optimised version, the process is basically similar, although some details will differ.

Your Shopping Cart (or Trolley, or Basket)

To order from our online shop, firstly add the item(s) you wish to purchase to your "Shopping Cart" by clicking the red "Add to Cart" button, which - if the items are in stock - will be found on the relevant product pages (to the right of the photos, below the item price), and will also appear on the category pages when you hover your cursor over the product listings. When you thus place any item in your cart, a notice headed "Shopping Cart Updated" will appear on-screen, showing the item just added. "1" is the default quantity; to change this, click on the "-" and/or "+" symbols on either side of the relevant "Quantity" box until it shows the number you wish to order - or else delete the existing number, enter the required number, and press "Enter".* To remove the item from your cart, click the "-" sign until the quantity reads "0," or else click the small "x" to the right of the item price (which turns red when you place your cursor over it). To carry on browsing, click on the words "Continue Shopping" at the bottom left of the box. If you are ready to place your order, click the "Go To Checkout" button to the bottom right; this will take you to the "Your Shopping Cart" page, from which you can proceed to the checkout.

*N.B. If you add a larger quantity of any item to your cart than we have in stock, an error message will appear. If this happens, click the grey "Back" button to the bottom left of the message, or - if the "Back" button does not appear - click the small red "x" to the top right of the message to remove it, and then click the black shopping trolley icon at the top right of the screen to go to "Your Shopping Cart".

Assuming you have chosen to "Continue Shopping" - you can add as many items to your basket as you wish - you can access "Your Shopping Cart" at any time by clicking the black shopping trolley icon at the top right of the screen; from here, you can remove any item from your cart by clicking the small red "X Remove" below the item title (the item will be deleted from your cart after a few seconds). To change the quantity of any item, click on the "-" and/or "+" symbols on either side of the relevant "Quantity" box until it shows the number you wish to order - or else delete the existing number, enter the required number, and press "Enter" or click the small black "Update" button which will appear below the relevant "Quantity" box. (If we do not have the required quantity in stock, an error message will appear - click the word "Back" to return to your cart, which will then show the previously selected quantity for the item concerned.) To return to the shop to browse further, click on the words "Continue Shopping" (to the bottom left of "Your Shopping Cart").

When you are ready to place your order, you can reach the checkout by clicking the black shopping trolley icon at the top right of the screen, or either of the red "Checkout Securely" buttons to the right of "Your Shopping Cart". Alternatively, if you wish to pay by Amazon Pay (see "Information about payment methods" below), please click the yellow "Amazon Pay" button below the second red "Checkout Securely" button (to the bottom right of "Your Shopping Cart").

Before you proceed to the checkout (or to "Amazon Pay") and place your order, please ensure that you have read, and agree with, our
Terms and Conditions and our Privacy and Cookies Policy; if you are based outside the United Kingdom (and/or your order is to be delivered to a non-UK address), please see "Important information for non-UK customers" below.

Information about payment methods

Customers from within the United Kingdom are welcome to pay by cheque, postal order, Amazon Pay (for customers with Amazon accounts), PayPal (for customers with existing PayPal accounts), or credit / debit card via PayPal (no account required – just a valid email address). We may also accept direct bank transfer payments in pounds sterling (£GBP) from UK bank accounts, although you will have to contact us first to arrange this, since (in order to prevent unauthorised payments) we do not currently offer this option at checkout. We do NOT recommend that you send cash through the post; if you send payment this way, you do so at your own risk.

Owing to variable bank charges for international transactions, we regret that we are unable to accept cheques issued by non-UK banks, or in any currency other than pounds sterling (£GBP), except by prior negotiation; customers from outside the United Kingdom, unless holding an UK bank account, must therefore normally pay by Amazon Payments, PayPal, or credit / debit card via PayPal.

PayPal is an easy and convenient way to pay online, and is much used by small online businesses and by buyers and sellers on online auction sites such as eBay; more importantly, it is also safe and secure, since the customer's credit card and bank details cannot be accessed by the merchant. Please see the PayPal website for more information.

If you already have - or intend to open - an Amazon account, you do not need to enter your billing and shipping details on our Checkout, since you can pay us easily, speedily and safely via
Amazon Pay using the shipping and payment information already stored in your Amazon account. To use this payment method, please click the yellow "Amazon Pay" button below the second of the two red "Checkout Securely" buttons in "Your Shopping Cart." (If you have already gone to the Checkout page, you will need to return to "Your Shopping Cart.")

Checkout

When you click the red "Checkout Securely" button, you will be taken to the first page of our checkout. There are four stages, as follows:

Stage 1: Delivery Details

Under "Delivery Address", please enter your correct delivery address and contact details in the spaces provided (fields not marked with a red asterisk are optional - although we recommend that you provide a valid email address to ensure that you receive confirmation of your order).

When you select your delivery country from the drop-down list under "Country" ("United Kingdom" appears as the default), details of the available delivery options and their costs will appear under "Delivery Options" (below "Delivery Address"); if more than one option is listed, please click on your preferred option to select it. N.B. If one or more products in your cart are not available for delivery to your chosen country, the error message "Sorry, '[product name]' cannot be delivered using the 'Europe' [or 'Rest of World'] delivery method" will appear, and you will not be able to proceed with your order as it stands. If this happens - or if you require UK Special or Express Delivery for items for which this is not listed as an available option or stated to be included in the price - please contact us, as we may be able to offer the delivery service you require at extra cost.

If your billing address is different from your delivery address, please uncheck the tick-box marked "Billing Address Same as Delivery Address" at the bottom of the "Delivery Address" section, and fill in your billing address and contact details in the spaces that will appear below.

Once you have entered all the relevant details - which will be held securely in accordance with our Privacy Policy - please click the red "Order Summary" button (to the bottom right of the page) to proceed to the next stage of the checkout; to return to "Your Shopping Cart", click "Back To Cart" (to the bottom left of the page).

Stage 2: Order Summary

Please check the details of your order as they appear here under "Order Summary" (if you need to amend your delivery details, click "Edit" - at the top right - to return to the previous page), and then choose your preferred payment option under "Select Payment Method" below (or return to "Your Shopping Cart" if you wish to pay via Amazon Pay). Assuming you have chosen to pay by cheque / postal order or PayPal / credit card / debit card, please click the red "Payment" button (to the bottom right of the page) to proceed to the next stage of the checkout; to return to the previous stage, click "Delivery Details" (to the bottom left).

Stage 3: Payment Details; Stage 4: Order Complete

If you have chosen to pay by cheque or postal order, your order will now be complete: directions for sending your payment will appear on-screen.

If you are paying by PayPal, or by credit / debit card via PayPal, you will now be taken to the PayPal secure site. If you have an existing PayPal account, and wish to pay from your existing account balance, you can log in to your PayPal account in the usual way. Otherwise, please click the grey "Check Out as a Guest" button; you can then enter your payment and contact details in the spaces provided, check the tick-box to agree to PayPal's Privacy Policy, and click the blue "Pay Now" button to complete your payment. Once you have completed your payment on the PayPal site, your order will be complete; if you entered a valid email address at the checkout stage, you will receive an automatic email from us to confirm your order.

Once we have received your completed order, we will contact you via email (if you have provided us with a valid email address) to keep you informed of the progress of your order.

Non-checkout orders (UK customers only)

If you wish to order from us, but would rather not order through our online checkout system - for instance, if you are unfamiliar with online shopping, or with computers in general - and are happy to pay by cheque, postal order or bank transfer, you may contact us by phone or email to place your order; please see our Contact Us page for contact details. (For reasons mentioned above, we regret that in practice this will normally apply to UK customers only.)

Important information for non-UK customers

Although we welcome orders from outside the United Kingdom, and can ship most items overseas, non-UK customers should note that:

(a) We regret that we are unable to offer overseas shipping for fragile items which are likely to exceed current Airmail size and weight limits when suitably packed, since no economic courier service accepting larger items for overseas delivery will provide insurance against breakage;
(b) Although we may be able to send large, heavy and/or bulky non-fragile items outside the UK, we do not offer overseas shipping for such items except by special arrangement, as the cost in most cases will be prohibitively high in relation to the cost of UK delivery;
(c) We are unable to send any item(s) to any destination where the importation or delivery of the said item(s) is forbidden by customs or postal regulations;
(d) We are not responsible for any customs and/or import duties that may be payable upon your order upon its arrival in the destination country (please check with your local Customs Office);
(e) We are unable to accept cheques or bank transfer payments from non-UK accounts, except by prior negotiation.

International shipping rates are not currently specified for products listed in the category "The Back Room". If you are interested in ordering any product(s) from this category for delivery to a non-UK address, please contact us for delivery costs before you order; if we are able to offer international shipping for the item(s) concerned, we will make it our priority to add the overseas rates for the said item(s), and we will let you know when we have done so.

The currency converter facility on our website (to be found at the bottom right of each page) will convert all our prices into a variety of overseas currencies (including Euros and US Dollars) at current exchange rates; to use it, simply choose your preferred currency from the drop-down list. All payments, however, should be made in pounds sterling (£GBP).
