Holy Bible, with index and coloured maps, in brown leather binding (1855-6)

The Holy Bible (King James Version), bound together with "An Index to the Persons, Places and Subjects occurring in the Holy Scriptures. With coloured maps", printed by George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode, London (the Bible itself is dated 1856, the Index 1855).  The volume, which is bound in brown leather (in contrast to the black usually associated with old Bibles), with gilt page edges, measures approximately 11.3 x 16.8 x 3.6cm; the maps, instead of being bound with the Index, are interleaved with the pages of the Bible itself.  The front endpaper bears an inscription in ink dated 1870, as well as a very visible indentation to the corner where an old price has been rubbed out.  There is considerable wear to the cover (especially to the edges), with bumping to the corners and various scratches, scuffs and marks, whilst the spine is faded with some creasing, although the binding remains intact and secure; the pages (including the maps) are somewhat discoloured with foxing and other marks, creasing and bumping to some corners and occasional slight bumping to some edges, and some wear and scratching to the gilt of the page edges.
