Miss Gwen L. Hughes and Leslie R. Rawle, "Perfect Cooking by Parkinson - A Comprehensive Guide to Success in the Kitchen" (Birmingham, The Parkinson Stove Co. Ltd., n.d.). Hardcover (green cloth boards), 311pp plus several black and white photographic illustrations, measuring approximately 14.3 x 21.8 x 4.5cm (5.65 x 8.6 x 1.75in). This cookery book, produced by the manufacturers of the "Renown", "Newpark", "Minette" and "Calthorpe" gas cookers, dates from the late 1930s, judging by the general appearance and by the style of the cookers illustrated and described in the back pages; it is indeed comprehensive, including such chapters as "Hors D'Oeuvres, Dinner, or Cocktail and Bridge Party Savouries", "Invalid Cookery" and "Fascinating Foods from Far Countries" (mainly European, but also including "Japanese Beef Sukiyaki"). No dustjacket; the cover is worn with marking, discoloration, wear to edges and corners and tearing / splitting to the cloth at the spine; the pages are tanned throughout with some bumping and occasional marks and creases; there is some foxing to the inside covers, endpapers and title page, whilst there is some damp staining to the page edges at the top corner, although this is only visible to the photographic pages when the book is open and to the bulk of the pages when it is closed.
