A c.1950s-60s vintage pottery ashtray with handle, advertising Gonzalez Byass sherry ("The Sherry of Spain"), in pale cream shiny glaze with a brown painted band to the interior and a delightful colour transfer design depicting bottles of Nectar, Crema, Rosa and Tio Pepe sherries sporting Spanish costume, and measuring approximately 9.1cm (3.6in) in diameter and 2.9cm (1.15in) tall (both measurements excluding handle); the base bears a round grey-green printed "HANCOCK CORFIELD & WALLER LTD / hcw / MITCHAM / BURLEIGH / ENGLAND" stamp together with three small painted dots and a small incised or impressed "x". There is some age wear including scratching, abrasion and marks to the surface, marking to the foot and wear / imperfections to the decoration; there are some manufacturing imperfections including short fault lines to the interior at the point where the handle is attached, a few small bumps, and slight unevenness to the rim.
