Hardcover (green cloth boards with colour paper medallion illustration to front, embossed and printed decoration to front and spine), 192pp plus colour frontispiece, measuring approximately 12.5 x 19.1 x 3.7cm (4.9 x 7.5 x 1.45in). An early 20th century edition of this tale "full of interest and of the most valuable moral and religious instruction", originally written in German by Christoph von Schmid (although Bedell claims to have translated it from the French), which, in various translations, was once very popular as a Sunday School prize. No dustjacket; there is some marking and discoloration to the cover (including a red linear mark to the back), with age wear including wear to the medallion, wear and bumping to the spine ends, and slight wear and bumping to the edges and corners; there is some discoloration, marking and foxing to the inside covers and endpapers and to the pages, the latter having some tanning to edges and other marks (including a pencil figure to the title page) together with age wear including bumping and indentations to the page edges and corners.
