A large French Art Deco globe-type lampshade / light shade of very distinctive shape, c.1930s, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in pale cream-yellow flake glass (with shiny surface to exterior), measuring approximately 24cm (9.45in) in height and 18.5cm (7.3in) across (max), with the opening measuring approximately 9.9cm (3.9in) in external diameter. The shade will need to be used in conjunction with a 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder); this is not included, but reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers. There is some age wear including a few scratches, spots of abrasion and slight marking to the surface; the edge of the opening is somewhat rough with a few chips and some nibbles (which are of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); the surface of the shade is somewhat uneven (in an "orange peel" fashion), and there are some other minor manufacturing imperfections in the glass including lines and air bubbles. Please note that the shade is somewhat heavier than an average pendant lampshade (about 840g / 1.85lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
