A beautiful French Art Deco chrome swan-neck desk or table lamp, c.1920s-30s, with a large flat copper leaf together with four chrome balls screwed to the stem as decoration, supplied with a beautiful old frosted glass shade with rippled pattern (lightly moulded to the interior) and frilled lower edge; although we believe the shade to be significantly older than the lamp (probably c.1890-1920), they nevertheless suit each other well. The lamp, which measures approximately 24.6cm (9.7in) in height and 12cm (4.7in) in diameter at the base, with shade measuring approximately 13.5cm (5.3in) in height, 15.4cm (6.05in) across at the base and about 8.6cm (3.4in) across near the top, has been newly rewired and earthed, with new flex (approximately 3.25m / 10.7ft long), push switch and UK plug, although the original brass BC lamp holder has been retained and is still in good working order. There is some age wear to the lamp including numerous scratches and scuffs (there are deep scratches to each side of the leaf), a circle of scratching / indentation around the base of the stem (where the stem has been loose and the base of the leaf has scraped against the chrome), and an area of wear or discoloration to the base between the switch and the stem; a small jagged hole in the edge of the base plate (caused by an attempt to remove it in the past) has been covered with new green baize to the outside and insulating tape to the inside. The shade, meanwhile, has some chipping and bruising around the lampholder hole (not visible for the most part when in use), together with slight marking and scratching / scuffing to the surface, whilst the glass contains various irregularities including a few small air bubbles. Please note that, since this is a vintage lamp, it is unlikely to conform to current regulations, and it is therefore sold as a decorative item only. We therefore recommend that this lamp is tested by a qualified electrician prior to use.
