An antique engraving of Restormel Castle, Cornwall, bearing the names "T. Allom", "Wm. Le Petit" and "Fisher, Son & Co. London, 1831" in small print at the base. The engraving shows the ancient ruins in a romantically wooded setting, which may have been the product of artistic licence back in 1831, and certainly does not resemble the open surroundings which the castle now enjoys! The engraving, which may have been taken from a book, has been hand-coloured (perhaps in fairly recent times) and mounted in a comparatively modern black and gilt wood frame with card mount and hanging cord (discoloured and rust-marked) to the back; the frame measures approximately 24.8 x 19.3 x 1.6cm (9.75 x 7.6 x 0.65in), whilst the inner aperture of the mount (i.e. the visible area of the printed sheet) measures approximately 17 x 11.7cm (6.7 x 4.6in). There is some foxing and discoloration to the print together with considerable browning to the mount, whilst there is some wear to the frame including chipping to the corners and cracking around the corner pins, and there is some spotting to the inside surface of the glass.
