Hardcover (straw-coloured printed cloth boards), 192pp plus endpapers, measuring approximately 13.8 x 19 x 1.5cm (5.45 x 7.5 x 0.6in) when closed. A collection of 22 short stories for children including "The Boy who turned into an Engine", "The Golliwog's Hiccups", "The Astonishing Fish" and "Mister Dear-Me's Handkerchief" (please see photo for full contents list), with numerous two-tone illustrations by Eileen A. Soper. No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured, marked and lightly stained with foxing to the spine; the inside covers and endpapers are discoloured and foxed, with a remnant of a white label and the number "91" in pencil to the inside front cover, and an inscription in blue ballpoint dated 1956 together with indentations from an old pencilled price (since rubbed out) to the front endpaper; the pages are somewhat yellowed with age, with some marking, occasional creasing and reading wear (especially towards the bottom of the first few pages).
