A commemorative ornamental china trio (small tea cup, saucer and tea plate) by Aynsley, produced to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (1837-1897), in white glaze with gilt trim, each piece having a matching hand-coloured transfer design incorporating a Royal shield, Union Jack, Royal Standard and crown with shamrocks, roses and thistles and the words "Union is / Strength / 1837 / 1897 / Diamond / Jubilee / The Longest Reign" together with individual hand-coloured transfers of the same floral emblems; the interior of the cup bears an additional hand-coloured transfer of a scroll with the greeting "For Union and for Queen" together with the same floral emblems. The cup measures approximately 5.7cm (2.25in) in height and 7.1cm (2.8in) across at the top (max, excluding handle), whilst the saucer measures approximately 14cm (5.5in) and the plate 17.9cm (7.05in) in diameter (both measurements maximum); all three pieces are marked to the base with the same green printed stamp with a crown and the words "AYNSLEY / ENGLAND / RD. No. 291231" together with the handpainted number "89" and a small handpainted letter or other mark (these marks being painted in a different colour for each piece). All three pieces are finely crazed throughout, with age wear including scratching and abrasion to the glaze, some wear to the gilt, wear and imperfections to the decoration, and various small marks to the surface including light brown staining to the lower cup handle, together with manufacturing imperfections including rough patches to the edges, tiny spot marks and occasional pinholes in the glaze.
