A commemorative pottery dish by Wade, produced to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (June 2nd, 1953), measuring approximately 12.1cm (4.75in) in diameter and 3cm (1.2in) deep, moulded with a design incorporating a central shield with the Royal cipher surrounded by animal emblems of the British Empire (lion), Australia (kangaroo), New Zealand (kiwi), Canada (beaver), Newfoundland (seal), India (elephant) and South Africa (springbok), and finished in green glaze; the base bears the words "WADE / ENGLAND / CORONATION / 1953" in relief to the centre, with the code "No. 3" in relief to the underside edge. (The upper surface is a lighter shade of green than that of the other green dish of this type that we currently have for sale, although the underside is practically the same shade.) There is some age wear including scratching and slight abrasion to the surface together with slight marking to the unglazed foot, whilst there are minor irregularities in the glaze including some unevenness to that of the underside edge.
