Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth commemorative beaker by Bovey Pottery, 1937

A commemorative pottery beaker, in off-white glaze with colour transfer decoration, measuring approximately 11.2cm (4.4in) in height and 7.3cm (2.85in) in diameter at the top, produced to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), May 1937.  The base bears a dark green printed "MADE IN ENGLAND / BY / BOVEY POTTERY / DEVON" stamp, together with a small painted "X" and a colour transfer mark featuring the Union Jack within a garter, with the words "Official Design of the / British Pottery Manufacturers Federation / Made in England".  There is some scratching and age wear to the surface (including the transfers), together with slight marking to the foot, which has one or two nibbles which may date from manufacture; there are some tiny spots in the glaze and other minor irregularities to the glaze of the interior, whilst two vertical moulding seams are faintly visible to the exterior.
