A commemorative ceramic pub jug produced by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd for Worthington & Co. Ltd, "In Commemoration of the Coronation of His Most Excellent Majesty King George V and His Most Gracious Consort Queen Mary June 22 1911". The jug, which measures approximately 12cm (4.7in) in height and 10.7cm (4.2in) in diameter (max, excluding handle), is finished in off-white glaze with colour transfer decorations and the transfer-printed slogan "ASK FOR / WORTHINGTON / IN BOTTLE". The base is printed with the Raphael Tuck "Artistic Series" trademark, together with the numbers "M 3021 / RD.NO. 570234", and the words "The property of / WORTHINGTON & CO LTD / Burton-on-Trent"; there is also a small impressed "216" to the inner edge of the foot. The rim, sadly, has evidently been damaged at some time in the past, and has been somewhat inelegantly "restored", and most of the gilt band around the rim appears to be gold paint applied at a later date (the original gilding is still visible in places). There is a tiny crack (perhaps just to the glaze) to the rim, together with some crazing (mostly to the upper portion and the base), age wear and scratching to the surface, wear to the transfers and wear, marking and a tiny nibble to the foot. In spite of these defects, this remains an interesting and unusual piece, of interest to collectors of advertising / breweriana and of commemorative items alike.
