A commemorative ceramic mug produced to mark the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on June 22, 1911, probably originally sold by or distributed through the Roche (Cornwall) branch of the Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS). The mug, which measures approximately 8.6cm (3.4in) in height and 9.1cm (3.6in) in diameter at the base, is glazed in white with a large colour transfer incorporating portraits of the King and Queen to one side and a red-brown scroll transfer with the words "ROCHE / CORNWALL" to the other, gilt rim and gilt trim to the handle; the base bears a green transfer-printed CWS "Labor and Wait" wheatsheaf mark with the words "C.W.S. LONGTON", together with a grey printed number "9", a small impressed "I" and some stray gilt marks. There is crazing to most of the surface, with some scratches and slight abrasion, slight wear / damage to the transfers, moderate wear to the gilt and age marking to the foot; there is a small chip to the moulded edge of the exterior near the base below the main transfer, together with a couple of tiny chips / nibbles or rough patches to the rim; there are various manufacturing imperfections including some roughness to the moulded edges, numerous spot marks and some tiny bumps in the glaze.
