A commemorative ceramic mug produced to mark the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on June 22, 1911, probably originally sold by or distributed through the Roche (Cornwall) branch of the Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS). The mug, which measures approximately 8.5cm (3.35in) in height and 9.2cm (3.6in) in diameter at the base, is glazed in white with a large colour transfer incorporating portraits of the King and Queen to one side and a red-brown scroll transfer with the words "ROCHE / CORNWALL" to the other, gilt rim and gilt trim to the handle; the base bears a green transfer-printed CWS "Labor and Wait" wheatsheaf mark with the words "C.W.S. LONGTON", together with a grey printed number "89". There is some crazing to the base of the interior together with a few short craze lines elsewhere; there are two or three tiny chips / nibbles or rough patches to the rim, together with some surface scratches, slight wear to the gilt and minor wear / imperfections to the transfers; there are various manufacturing imperfections including some roughness to the moulded edges, numerous spot marks and some tiny bumps in the glaze.
