A commemorative china mug by Shelley (late Foley), produced to mark the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on June 22, 1911, measuring approximately 7.6cm (3in) in height and 7.5cm (2.95in) in diameter at the base, in white with a large colour transfer incorporating twin portraits of the King and Queen to one side, a smaller colour transfer of a crowned lion holding a tablet with the words "CORONATION / of / KING GEORGE / V / 1911" to the other, and a further colour transfer with crown and fanfare trumpet to the upper interior, together with gilt rim and gilt trim to the handle; the base bears the green printed "Late Foley / SHELLEY / ENGLAND" shield stamp plus small incised and gilt marks. There is some crazing to the base of the interior, together with age wear including scratching and abrasion to the surface, some wear to the gilt, some abrasion to the lion transfer and slight wear to the other transfers; there are some minor manufacturing imperfections including tiny spot marks, a few small bumps and some unevenness in the glaze.
