Product description

Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary (1911) antique commemorative beaker by Fielding's Devon Ware (Crown Devon)

An original antique Fielding's Devon Ware (Crown Devon) commemorative ceramic beaker, produced to mark the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on June 22, 1911. The beaker, which is finished in off-white glaze with gilt rim, has a large colour transfer-printed design to one side (with the words "REGISTERED / No. 563731" to the bottom right corner) featuring twin black and white portraits of the King and Queen, incorporating their dates of birth and the date of their marriage, with the words "IN COMMEMORATION", whilst there is a smaller colour transfer to the other side with the motto "MAY THEIR REIGN BE GLORIOUS"; the base bears the brown printed "DEVON WA[RE] / S. F. & Co.. / STOKE ON TREN[T] / ENGLAND" crown stamp together with the red painted code number "0584".

Whilst this genuine antique shows various signs of age including crazing (see condition description below) together with minor manufacturing imperfections including tiny specks in the glaze - and, due to its age and condition, we do not recommend that it be used for food or drink - it displays nicely, and as such would make a lovely addition to a collection of commemorative ware.
