Coronation of King Edward VIII commemorative pottery beaker by Solian Ware (Soho Pottery), 1937

A commemorative pottery beaker by Solian Ware (Soho Pottery, Cobridge), in off-white / pale cream glaze with colour transfer decoration, measuring approximately 11.2cm (4.4in) in height and 8cm (3.15in) in diameter, produced in anticipation of the Coronation of King Edward VIII on 12 May 1937 (which did not take place owing to his abdication); the base bears the "OFFICIAL DESIGN OF THE / BRITISH POTTERY MANUFACTURERS FEDERATION / MADE IN ENGLAND" colour transfer Union Jack and garter mark together with the black and red printed mark "Solian / Ware / SOHO POTTERY LTD.. / COBRIDGE / ENGLAND".  The glaze is finely crazed throughout; there are several nibbles and small chips together with some roughness to the rim, plus a small nibble to the foot, whilst there is some surface wear including occasional slight scratches and linear abrasions to the glaze and some wear / damage to the transfer decoration in places; there are some minor manufacturing imperfections including some tiny spot marks and occasional pinholes in the glaze.
