An unusual commemorative ceramic mug, produced to jointly mark the return of peace at the conclusion of the Boer War on 1 June 1902 and the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on 26 June of the same year. The mug, which measures approximately 8.2cm (3.25in) in height and 8.6cm (3.4in) in diameter at the top (excluding handle), is glazed in white with a large colour Coronation transfer incorporating twin portraits of the King and Queen to one side, and another large colour transfer depicting two soldiers representing the opposing armies shaking hands in front of a winged figure representing Peace (surrounded by flags representing Britain and her Colonies), with the words "PEACE PROCLAIMED / SUNDAY JUNE 1st 1902 / PEACE AND PROSPERITY / UNITY IS STRENGTH", together with traces of very worn gilt to the rim and handle; there are no maker's marks, although the peace transfer incorporates a designer's name (not fully legible). There is crazing to much of the surface, with age wear including scratching and abrasion to the glaze and some wear to the transfers; there are various manufacturing imperfections including spot marks, small bumps and occasional pinholes in the glaze, and a small glazed-over chip to the base edge below the peace transfer.
