A commemorative / advertising pottery match holder by Taylor, Tunnicliffe & Co., in off-white / cream glaze (semi-matt to the exterior, shiny to the interior of the match well), measuring approximately 7cm (2.75in) in height and 9cm (3.55in) in diameter. To one side is a colour transfer commemorating the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra (1902), incorporating a joint portrait of the King and Queen, whilst the other side advertises "SAML. MASON LTD. / PRIZE MEDAL / BEER ENGINES AND BAR FITTINGS / BIRMINGHAM" in blue capital letters; the base bears a blue printed crown and "TTC" monogram stamp. The surface is finely crazed throughout with considerable staining and marking (especially to and around the base, and to the edge of the well), together with age wear including some wear, fading and imperfections to the transfers; there is some old restoration together with a few short hairline cracks around the edge of the well, whilst there is some wear to the foot including a few tiny nibbles (one with a short hairline crack adjoining) to the base edge.
