A "Colwyn late Mayers" small flow blue tureen (without its lid), c.1890, with blue and white floral transfer design with gilt decoration, measuring approximately 20.9cm (8.25in) long including handles, 12.9cm (5.1in) wide and 8.5cm (3.35in) tall; the base is marked with a blue pictorial printed stamp showing a kneeling nude with the date 1790 and the words "COLWYN / K & CB / LATE MAYERS", together with an impressed "3". There is a star-shaped hairline crack to the base (and partly visible to the interior), together with a fault line running around about one third of the exterior above the foot; there is also some surface scratching inside and out, and some age wear / marking to the foot, whilst there are numerous small brown specks and other marks beneath, and pinholes in, the glaze. Although not of course suitable for its original purpose, this would make a very attractive container for pot-pourri or for flower arrangements, especially in a traditional setting.
