"Collins Book for Boys" (London and Glasgow, Wm. Collins Sons and Co. Ltd., no publication date but with original inscription dated "XMAS 1942" in blue ink to corner of second page).  Boys' story book with board covers (with front cover design depicting a naval officer with binoculars, with a battleship upon a rough sea in the background), 192pp plus three colour and four black and white plates, measuring approximately 20.9 x 26 x 2.6cm (8.25 x 10.25 x 1in).  This scarce book, dating from (and with much of its contents inspired by) the Second World War, contains sixteen stories by various authors, including "Goatcher's Gut" by Christopher Beck and "Iron Cross for Harrison" by Arthur Catherall, a poem "Convoy" by J. G. Robinson, and articles on "Table Tennis", "E-Boat Alley" and "The Air Training Corps", with some black and white illustrations.  No dustjacket; the cover is discoloured and considerably marked with age wear including scratching and scuffing to the boards and wear and bumping to the edges and corners; the pages are discoloured with some marks, edge wear, bumping to corners and the odd corner crease.
