A collection of "A.D." historical news sheets (produced for educational purposes), c.1950s, written (in some cases at least) by John Newsom, M.A., and published by George Allen & Unwin Ltd; each sheet presents the events, fashions etc. of an historically significant date in the guise of contemporary news reportage. This collection comprises the dates 1493, 1535, 1588, 1605, 1628, 1666, 1689, 1704, 1727, 1746, 1774, 1789, 1805, 1815, 1837, 1848 and 1878; please note that this is not a complete set, as at least four other dates were also issued. Each newssheet consists of four pages (i.e. one folded sheet) and measures, when folded, approximately 22.3 x 28.3cm / 8.8 x 11.15in (the exact size varies, as does the colour and thickness of the paper). There are varying degrees of age wear including bumping, creasing and slight tearing to edges and corners, together with varying degrees of discoloration, tanning to edges and slight marks ("1605" has a smallish grease stain to one corner).
