An unusual large "Casino Cigarette Cabinet" cigarette box in dark brown mottled Bakelite, with hinged lid incorporating a gambling game consisting of a twin spinner activated by turning a single knob; the directions for playing this game are moulded in relief to the base. The box, which dates from around 1930, measures approximately 20.2 x 17cm (7.95 x 6.7in) at the base, and 6.5cm (2.55in) in height excluding knob. The mechanism has been recently oiled and overhauled (the original rubber flippers, which had perished, have been replaced with new), and thus works reasonably well, although the figures on the dials do not always align fully with the apertures once they have stopped spinning. The exposed areas of the exterior have dulled and discoloured with age (especially the lid), and there are various scratches and indentations, as well as nibbling to the edges of the knob and paint marks to the underside edges, whilst two of the corners have broken off the thin Bakelite sheet to the inside lid which covers the mechanism; there is some slight manufacturing roughness to some edges.
