A Carlton Ware (Wiltshaw and Robinson) crested pottery spherical match holder / striker, in off-white glaze with rough glazed exterior (for striking matches) with "Cirencester" crest to one side, early 20th century, measuring approximately 6cm (2.35in) in height and 7.5cm (2.95in) in diameter; the unglazed base bears the blue printed "W & R / STOKE ON TRENT / CARLTON WARE" crown and swallow stamp together with what appears to be a faint old pre-decimal price (1/9). There is a knock to the rim of the well above the crest, with V-shaped crack approximately 2.1cm (0.85in) in overall length, together with age wear including scratching and abrasion (especially to the well and its surround) and slight marking; there are some minor imperfections in the glaze including tiny pockmarks and spot marks.
