A Carlton China (Wiltshaw and Robinson) hexagonal crested jug of attractively moulded hexagonal shape, early 20th century, measuring approximately 4.9cm (1.95in) in height at the centre and 7cm (2.75in) across from the top of the handle to the end of the lip, with large "Northleach" crest to one side. There are two printed marks to the base: the manufacturer's mark, incorporating a crown and swallow and the words "W&R / STOKE ON TRENT / CARLTON CHINA", and the retailer's mark, which reads "PUBLISHED BY / F.W. GARDINER / THE COTSWOLD PRESS / NORTHLEACH"; below the crest are the words "COPYRIGHT. F.W.G." There is some wear to the gilt rim and slight wear and fading to the crest (the colouring of which appears to be handpainted), together with two smallish chips to the lip, several tiny "pockmarks" and black spots to the surface, and a small rough black patch to the exterior.
