British Empire Exhibition (Wembley, 1924) commemorative china plate by Ford & Pointon
A Fords China (Ford & Pointon) commemorative china tea plate, produced to commemorate the British Empire Exhibition (Wembley, April-October 1924), in off-white, moulded with raised swags, with gilt rim and central coloured transfer featuring Britannia with ship, aeroplane and factory in the background. The plate, which measures approximately 17.7cm (6.95in) in diameter, is marked to the base with a green printed "FORDS CHINA / F & P / FORD & POINTON / ENGLAND" swan pictorial stamp. The transfer, which is not correctly aligned with the moulded pattern, is worn with considerable fading / oxidisation, and there is slight to moderate wear to the gilt rim together with some surface wear and scratching and a small chip to the underside edge; there are some minor manufacturing imperfections including some rough spots and patches to the edge.
