A small brass plate, c.1900, with the words "MOON / PLYMOUTH" in Victorian style lettering in shallow relief, and mounting holes in each corner. Measuring approximately 12.7 x 3.5cm (5 x 1.4in) and less than 1mm (0.05in) thick, the plate has various marks and stains, in addition to wear through polishing. "Moon & Sons" was the name of a "Piano-Forte Saloon and Music Library" which traded at 6-7 George Street, Plymouth, and in Torquay, in the late 19th and early 20th century; it is thus likely that this plate was originally fixed to an organ or piano sold by that firm.
