A vintage set of children's novelties called "Box Full of Fun" ("contains seven amazing novelties"), c.1950, in original box with an appealing pictorial lid label showing four children playing with the contents. The box, which measures approximately 25.3 x 12.4 x 2.2cm (9.95 x 4.9 x 0.85in), contains the following items:
(a) "Brumas' Playtime" - a small thin flexible plastic figure representing Brumas (born on 27 November 1949, the first polar bear cub to be born and to survive at London Zoo), intended to play tricks in the palm of the hand, in original envelope;
(b) "The Truth Teller" (or "magic pendulum"), in original envelope;
(c) "The 'New Look'" (a small flexible mirror capable of distorting reflections, presumably so named after the influential new style of couture introduced by Christian Dior in 1947), in original envelope;
(d) "The Magic Bridge" - a small piece of clear plastic with small paper discs which "dance" when the "bridge" is rubbed, in original envelope;
(e) Two "balancing butterflies" made of printed card with metal weights (one butterfly has split in two, and the weights have rusted, two having become detached from the card);
(f) A card printed with a "kite string" puzzle and joke - of similar vintage to the other items but perhaps not originally belonging to this set;
(g) The envelope only for "The Magic Ribbon".
There is some age wear to the box including wear, discoloration and slight pen marks to the lid label, paper loss to the base edges and some crushing to the sides; the contents have varying degrees of wear, tear and discoloration. As far as we can tell, only the "Magic Bridge" still functions as intended - the set is therefore sold as a collector's item only.
