A vintage Beswick Ware lettuce or cabbage leaf-shaped three-legged strainer (which would originally have been part of a set with a base dish), c.1930s-60s, measuring approximately 21.6cm (8.5in) across (max) and 5.6cm (2.2in) tall including legs, in cream glaze with handpainted tomato decoration; the base bears a gilt "Beswick / Ware. / MADE IN / ENGLAND" script mark together with small brown and blue-green painted marks. The surface is finely crazed throughout with brown staining to the craze lines in places together with other slight marks to the surface and marking to the feet; there is a hairline crack approximately 2.5cm (1in) long at the edge (mostly visible to the underside only), together with a few tiny nibbles and some roughness to the rim, and surface wear including scratching and abrasion plus some wear to the painted decoration; there are various manufacturing imperfections including tiny spot marks and pinholes in the glaze.
