A vintage Beswick Ware lettuce / cabbage leaf-shaped dish, c.1950s-60s, measuring approximately 23.1 x 20.7 x 4.7cm / 9.1 x 8.15 x 1.85in (max), in graduated green glaze (off-white to the central underside) with handpainted red tomato decoration; the base bears the gilt "Beswick / Ware. / MADE IN / ENGLAND." script mark together with a faint impressed stamp "MADE IN ENGLAND / 212 / BESWICK" (which denotes a piece manufactured between 1954 and 1971) and a handpainted code number. There is a crack about 6cm (2.35in) long at one end (visible on both sides), a shorter hairline crack about 1.6cm (0.65in) long (mainly visible to the underside), and a shallow chip (approximately 0.9 x 0.6cm / 0.35 x 0.25in) to the underside edge, together with fine crazing throughout with pale brown staining to much of the upper surface, age wear including scratching and abrasion to the surface, marking to the handpainted decoration and wear and marking to the foot; there are some manufacturing imperfections including occasional tiny bumps and some tiny spot marks in the glaze.
