Beswick Ware lettuce / cabbage leaf dish (cream with handpainted tomatoes), c.1930s (SOLD)

A vintage Beswick Ware lettuce or cabbage leaf-shaped dish, c.1930s, measuring approximately 23.5 x 19.4 x 4.6cm / 9.25 x 7.65 x 1.8in (max), in cream glaze with handpainted tomato decoration; the base bears a gilt "Beswick / Ware. / ENGLAND" script mark together with a green painted code and an incised mark.  There is a pair of large adjacent chips plus two or three smaller chips to the underside edge (the large ones being slightly visible when the dish is viewed from above), together with crazing to most of the surface, age wear including scratching, abrasion and various slight marks, very slight wear to the painted decoration, and a short hairline crack or manufacturing fault line to the foot; there are various manufacturing imperfections including numerous spot marks, several small lumps and bumps and the odd pinhole in the glaze.
