A vintage Beswick Ware large lettuce / cabbage leaf-shaped dish (rounded rectangular with handles), c.1950s-60s, measuring approximately 30 x 20 x 6.3cm / 11.8 x 7.85 x 2.5in (max), in graduated green glaze (off-white to the central underside) with handpainted tomato decoration; the base bears an incomplete gilt "Beswick / Ware. / MADE IN / ENGLAND." script mark together with a partially indistinct impressed stamp "BESWICK . ENGLAND / 219" (which denotes a piece produced between 1954 and 1971) and a handpainted code number. The surface is crazed throughout with a large area of brown staining to each side and a few smaller patches of brown staining, together with moderate age wear including a few surface scratches, a small patch of loss to the paint of one tomato, and wear and marking to the foot; there are some minor manufacturing imperfections including a few bumps and tiny spot marks in the glaze.
