A c.1960s vintage Beswick "Apollo" cheese dish (no. 1970), very typical of its era in design and style. The lid, which measures approximately 12.9 x 10.9cm (5.1 x 4.3in), is finished in white glaze and decorated with a transfer pattern consisting of branches with leaves and abstract-patterned rectangles, and is marked to the interior with a black printed "BESWICK B ENGLAND" stamp together with the name "APOLLO" in gold; the base, which measures approximately 17.2 x 15cm (6.75 x 5.9in) is glazed in dark greyish blue to the upper surface and white to the underside, which is impressed "BESWICK . ENGLAND / 1970"; the lid and base together stand approximately 8cm (3.15in) tall. The lid is in very good condition apart from a craze to the top, very slight scratching and a few imperfections to the transfer (dating from manufacture). The base is crazed with a few scratches and a small spot of wear (about 0.5 square cm / 0.2 square in, above first vertical line in photo), and has some imperfections to the colouring at the edge.
