A large marbled dark red Bakelite salt cellar, c.1930s-50s, approximately 8.2cm (3.25in) tall and 5.5cm (2.15in) wide at the screw-on base, which is marked "THE PROPERTY OF JOSEPH LUCAS LTD. / CATERING DEPT.", and thus probably came from the works canteen of the well-known manufacturers of automotive electrical components. There is roughness and deep scratching around the hole at the top, where the tip has evidently been broken off, in addition to other minor scratching, nibbles, roughness to edges, and general age wear (especially to the base). Even so, this would be of interest to collectors of automobilia, Bakelite and kitchenalia alike.
