Brown Bakelite chamberstick-style table lamp by Stesco, c.1930s

A c.1930s chamberstick-style table lamp in mottled brown Bakelite, measuring approximately 19.75cm (7.8in) tall (excluding bulb) and 12.9cm (5.1in) in diameter at the rim of the base, and marked "MADE IN ENGLAND / Stesco series / PATENT APPLIED FOR" to the base.  The lamp appears to have started life as a battery-powered night light: there is a small rectangular hole in the base where the switch would have been, and the stem would have held the batteries.  At some time in the past it has been converted to mains electricity, and it has been newly rewired with gold flex (about 1.25m / 4.1ft long) with inline switch, and a new SES lampholder concealed (for the most part) by a painted card tube resembling a candle.  There is a chip about 5mm long to the Bakelite where the lampholder is attached (concealed by the card tube when in use), a rough patch (probably a manufacturing defect) to the rim of the base, and surface wear including light scratching.  A nearly-new 40 watt opal SES candle bulb is included, and a standard UK plug is fitted.

Please note that, since this is a vintage lamp, it is unlikely to conform to current regulations, and it is therefore sold as a decorative item only.  We therefore recommend that this lamp is tested by a qualified electrician prior to use.
