A good example of a china "Peace" mug, produced by Aynsley in late 1918 or 1919 to commemorate the end of the First World War. The mug, which measures approximately 7.2cm (2.85in) in height and 7.3cm (2.85in) in diameter at the base, is transfer printed in colour with a design incorporating a dove with olive branch, flags, and scenes representative of war and peace, and decorated with gilt to the rim and handle. There is a faint green printed "AYNSLEY / ENGLAND" crown stamp to the base, together with another small mark. There is slight wear and scratching to the transfers, together with slight wear to the gilt, a few short surface scratches, and some age wear / marking to the foot; there are also some manufacturing imperfections including a fault line at the base of the lower handle joint.
