Arthur Groom, "John of the Fair" (London and New York, Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd, 1950). Hardback from the "Crown Library Series", 256pp plus colour frontispiece, measuring approximately 13.7 x 19.9 x 3.5cm (5.4 x 7.85 x 1.4in). "This is a colourful and exciting story of the gay Regency days. It tells of John Claydon, supposed son of a travelling herb-dealer, and of how, after his "father's" death, he sets out as the Boy Doctor to prove his right to his real name and inheritance." The dustjacket is ragged at the edges with missing areas, tears and creases, whilst the cover is worn and faded in places with slightly bumped corners. The flyleaf bears an inscription in blue ink, and there is slight foxing to the endpapers, together with a tiny rip at the bottom of the first page; the pages are lightly yellowed, and the page edges show slight bumping and marks when the book is closed.
